Waste management - E-Waste
Considering the current issue of solid waste generation, we highlight old, end-of-life or discarded electrical appliances that use electricity, or E-Waste. It may include refrigerators, cellphones, computers, etc.
Besides having a complex processing management, this kind of residue causes series of public health issues, such as water and soil pollution by toxic products the appliances contain. Environmental contamination and human degradation is often seen in developing countries where E-Waste is shipped for processing. Continuous technological innovation allied to a policy of planned obsolescence ends up fomenting an ever rising discard of E-Waste.
Sculptural Function: building as a monument
As a counterpoint to the vertical logic and highly homogeneous metropolis aesthetic, we created an icon that stands out in urban context as a sculptural element.
Our first goal is to raise public awareness on the fragility of our environment and how everyone can contribute to a future more socially fair, economically viable and environmentally correct. The second goal is to provide an adequate destination to E-Waste closer to its source.
Replicating this Unit in various metropolises around the world may cause significant reduction of E-Waste generation through awareness of this issue. Besides, it represents combat on poor E-Waste management and other social and environmental issues caused by inadequate processing in developing countries.
